MODE Design is thrilled to announce the completion and official opening of Charles Darwin University’s (CDU) new city campus, Danala, located in the heart of Darwin. This landmark development is a key component of the Darwin City Deal, aimed at revitalising the city centre and expanding opportunities for education and economic growth in the Northern Territory.

As the architect, interior designer, and interpretive wayfinding designer, MODE played a central role in shaping Danala’s design from initial schematic concepts to the final build. The project exemplifies a successful collaboration between CDU, MODE Design, and local builder DCOH. Danala is ready to attract students from across the region and beyond, offering state-of-the-art facilities and a diverse range of courses, including IT, law, and accounting. Its open-access design also invites the Darwin community to enjoy public spaces, such as a cutting-edge library that combines the collections of CDU and Library & Archives NT, strengthening the bond between the educational and civic sectors of the city.

A focus on community benefits was central to the project, resulting in the creation of over 1,500 jobs during the construction phase, with 12% of those positions held by First Nations people. This emphasis reflects a strong commitment to inclusivity and support for the local community throughout the project. (Ministers' Media Centre)

The Danala campus represents a significant step in shaping Darwin’s future as a vibrant, knowledge-driven hub. As MODE Design continues to deliver innovative solutions, we look forward to seeing the positive impact Danala will have on both students and the wider community in the coming years.
