Katherine Wayfinding

Katherine’s location along the Stuart highway between Darwin and Alice Springs and nearby attractions such as the Nitmiluk Centre makes it a popular tourist destination.

The purpose of this project was to bring consistency to the range of wayfinding signage used throughout the region and bring consistency to their place-making and destination branding initiatives.

An iconic landmark is the nearby river which was referenced prominently on orientation maps.

The solution includes a simple and interlinked set of orientation and directional signs that allow visitors to easily navigate the main street of town and surrounds. The wayfinding strategy includes directions to destinations further afield and the ability for the signage to be extended to these locales. The design is documented through a signage manual for future reference.
