ECU Joondalup Library

Working within the existing library atrium at Edith Cowan University, MODE + Renascent have delivered a new feature presentation staircase within the library space.

Featuring Blackbutt timber, the new terraced stair incorporates integrated seating platforms, providing an opportunity for staff and students to work collaboratively and engage socially.

Built-in booth style seating nestled beneath the stairs utilises the space to provide additional spaces to work in small groups without impeding on the surrounding circulation space.

The rich colours of the blackbutt timber are reflective of ECU’s choice to incorporate natural materials internally and continues the design aesthetics throughout the building. The inclusion of a green colour scheme to the booth seating provides pops of colour and is reflective of the University's colourful campus schemes, and Western Australian forests.
