Camooweal Primary Health Care Centre

MODE collaborated with Hutchinson Builders to bring this vital project to life. Our multidisciplinary team, including Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Wayfinding experts, delivered a cohesive design aligned with our CONNECTED BY DESIGN philosophy. This approach ensured the facility not only serves its functional purpose but also fosters a sense of community and connection.

A Modular Marvel
Constructed by Hutchies Modular at their Yatala yard, the health centre exemplifies the efficiency of modern prefabricated building methods. The 780m² facility comprises 22 modular components, transported over 2,000km to Camooweal and installed on-site in just one day. This accelerated process enabled the project to be completed within an impressive 13 weeks.

Enhanced Community Health Services
The new health centre replaces the original facility, which was fully demolished alongside outdated staff accommodation buildings. Designed as part of Queensland Health’s Building Rural and Remote Health Program, the centre features a resuscitation and treatment bay, decontamination and sterilisation areas, consultation rooms, interview spaces, and multipurpose education areas. These modern spaces uphold the highest standards of hygiene and safety, ensuring the facility meets the community's growing healthcare needs.

Tailored to Community Needs
Community input played a vital role in shaping the project, resulting in a design that reflects local values and requirements. The facility also includes shaded outdoor areas, accessible parking solutions, and sustainable features such as solar panels and modern water tanks.

A Space for Health and Connection
Opened on 26 November 2024, the centre is already enhancing access to healthcare in the region. The launch celebration included a Welcome to Country by local Elders, student performances, and a time capsule ceremony, marking a significant milestone for the Camooweal community.

Project Team
The success of this project is a result of strong collaboration between Queensland Health, Hutchinson Builders, MODE, Group 6 Engineers, and McCarthy Consulting Group.
