Arncliffe Town Centre

Client: Bayside Council
Location: Arncliffe, NSW

In early 2019 Bayside Council prepared the Arncliffe-Banksia Public Domain Plan (PDP) and Technical Manual. The PDP identified concept proposals for priority precincts; one of these being Firth Street from Forest Road to Wollongong Road and the precinct to be known as ‘Arncliffe Town Centre’.

A holistic approach to the streetscape design provides generous tree canopy cover, extensive new pavements, planting, Water-sensitive urban design (WSUD) and seating opportunities. In re-designing the roadway, additional tree pits and parking were added. The whole outcome will be a revitalised and activated retail centre for the local community.

MODE is proud to have delivered the detailed design and documentation of the Arncliffe Town Centre including:

• Preservation of significant trees and heritage elements including stone kerbing.

• Upgraded pedestrian pavements including natural stone surfaces to all retail frontages.

• Greening and shading of the street with new street trees and garden beds.

• Roadway width adjustments to accommodate shared cycle lanes.

• Broadened and extended pedestrian areas providing additional space for circulation, seating and al fresco dining.

• Enhanced safety at pedestrian crossings.

• Improved parkland providing open space within easy walking distance of the Centre.

The key objectives in delivering the project were to provide an attractive, comfortable and safe Town Centre which supports business activity and instil a renewed sense of pride in one of the area’s oldest retail streets.
