MODE Darwin Has a New Director

23 August 2017

MODE is pleased to announce the promotion of Darwin’s Studio Manager, Jenny Culgan to Director. The appointment recognises Jenny’s outstanding business acumen, organisational, communication and design skills.

Jenny joined MODE’s Darwin studio as a graduate architect in July 2008 when MODE purchased The Architects Studio. Shortly after Jenny successfully gained her Registration as an Architect with the Board of Architects (Northern Territory), and in early 2015 was appointed to the role of Darwin Studio Manager.

As Studio Manager, Jenny demonstrated exceptional leadership, managing Darwin staff and operations whilst continuing in her role as Project Architect on a number of large scale and high profile projects. Jenny consistently identified business opportunities for growth and improvement and is proactive in pursuing these, working towards positive outcomes with dedication, intelligence and highly original thought.

Jenny enjoys working closely with indigenous communities to deliver projects ranging from single and group housing, health clinics and community cultural facilities across the Northern Territory along with delivering successful projects in the urban setting.

Darwin Principal, Peter Bertram said Jenny is an excellent ambassador for MODE and for women in the construction and design industry.

“MODE fully supports Jenny’s involvement in advocacy, in which she has been able to achieve
outstanding results, whilst upholding her professional role in our practice. Her strong sense of initiative and dedication to the promotion of the role of architects and architecture in the wider industry and community has helped us attract new clients and increase our brand awareness in Darwin and the Northern Territory.” said Mr. Bertram.

For over 25 years, Ms. Culgan has contributed to not only the architectural community but also takes on mentoring roles within the Darwin studio.

“Throughout my career, I have developed my leadership skills which allows me to view office dynamics and work situations through fresh eyes. Currently, the Darwin studio has six women and one male. With three registered architects, all female, in senior positions. By becoming a Director, I look forward to the development and future of the Darwin studio and staying at the forefront of design”, said Ms. Culgan.

Jenny has trusted relationships within the industry, including the Northern Territory Government and the wider community. Her visions and leadership skills continue to maintain, develop and extend MODE’s multidisciplinary services across Australia, New Zealand and Vietnam.
